Bolivia situation guide
Chasing a payment is navigation, not confrontation
The saldo from Importadora del Oriente runs three weeks through contabilidad, and every message you send builds on the last: week one is a soft nudge with a reason attached ('para cerrar la carpeta'); week two gets concrete, a date question plus the helpful offer to re-send the factura, which quietly removes the most common excuse; week three is firm but warm, stating the consequence as a plain schedule fact ('para poder arrancar la segunda fase') and asking the one question that actually moves corporate payments: '¿con quién lo destrabo?' What never gets sent, interest talk, penalty threats, sarcasm, the daily bump, public pressure, only ever appears as a wrong option in this chapter; the abogado is something you'd quietly do, never a message you'd send. And when the payment finally lands, there's no victory lap: '¡Recibido! Gracias por gestionarlo' closes the loop with whoever actually pushed it through.
Essential vocabulary
- el saldo: the outstanding balance The neutral business word for what's still owed, flat and factual, never dramatic.
- ¿cómo vamos con el saldo?: how are we doing with the balance? The soft week-one nudge, a question, not a demand, that opens the ladder gently.
- para cerrar la carpeta del proyecto: to close the project's folder The reason that turns a nudge into coordination instead of pressure, every message in the ladder carries one.
- ¿me confirmás la fecha del depósito?: can you confirm the deposit date for me? The week-two move: concrete and specific enough that Carla's team has something to answer.
- reenvío la factura: I'll re-send the invoice Removing a possible excuse kindly, helpfulness is the most disarming form of insistence.
- para poder arrancar la segunda fase: so I can start the second phase The consequence stated as a plain schedule fact, the same information as a threat, with the opposite effect on the relationship.
- necesito el saldo esta semana: I need the balance this week The week-three opener: direct and time-bound, without a single word of threat.
- ¡recibido! gracias por gestionarlo: received! thanks for pushing it through The no-victory-lap close, it thanks the person who actually helped, with zero comment about the wait.
Bolivian Spanish terms
- está en contabilidad: it's with accounting The classic corporate reply, usually true, not a brush-off. It tells you the payment has an owner somewhere; your job becomes finding them.
- destrabar: to unblock, to unstick THE word for stuck payments and stuck paperwork alike. Asking '¿con quién lo destrabo?' marks you as someone who solves problems, not someone who scolds.
- ¿con quién lo destrabo?: who can I unblock this with? The corporate key question, this chapter's phrasebook line. It routes the firmness at the system, not at Carla, and gives her an easy way out of the middle.
