Bolivia situation guide

Flyers sell, questions inform

A Bolivian tour flyer tells you what the agency wants you to know: the attraction, the price, the 'incluye' list. What it doesn't tell you is whether the tour fits YOUR weekend, that comparison is your job, starting from the facts only you hold: Saturday is your free day, your flight leaves Sunday at 17:40, breakfast at El Patio is at 07:00. Then come the questions the paper can't answer: the entrance fee, the real group size, and above all '¿qué pasa si llueve?' Operators answer contingency questions honestly when you ask them directly, and the answer belongs in the written thread. Book in writing, send the small QR deposit, and ask for a confirmation that names date, pickup, and price. That one message is the anchor for everything the weekend does next.

Essential vocabulary

  • medio día / día completo: half day / full day The first line to read on any tour flyer, it decides which day of your plan the tour can even fit into.
  • tengo vuelo el domingo a las 17:40: I have a flight on Sunday at 17:40 Constraint-first sentences turn a sales pitch into real advice, the agent starts planning around your Sunday.
  • ¿me conviene el de medio día o el completo?: is the half-day one or the full one better for me? 'Me conviene' invites the agent to reason about YOUR plan instead of praising the product, the same verb that chose your trufi.
  • ¿qué incluye cada uno?: what does each one include? Your Samaipata include-question, upgraded into a comparison tool for two offers at once.
  • ¿la entrada está incluida?: is the entrance fee included? The cost tour flyers most often leave out, entrance fees are usually charged at the gate, separate from the tour price.
  • ¿cuántas personas van?: how many people are going? 'Grupo máximo 8' is a ceiling, not a promise, the real number shapes your day and tells you whether the trip will run at all.
  • ¿qué pasa si llueve?: what happens if it rains? The contingency question is the traveler's best tool in Bolivia, operators answer it honestly when asked directly, and the written answer protects you later.
  • el depósito de Bs 50 por QR: the Bs 50 deposit by QR How small bookings are held in Bolivia: a QR transfer from your phone, with the screenshot dropped into the same chat as proof.
  • ¿me confirma por escrito, por favor?: can you confirm for me in writing, please? The closing move of every booking: a written confirmation naming date, pickup, and price is your reference if anything changes.

Bolivian Spanish terms

  • el recojo: the pickup From 'recoger'. Bolivian tour flyers say 'recojo en su hostal', the agency van collects each guest at their door. Confirm its time and place in the written booking.
  • el box lunch: the packed lunch An English loanword that Bolivian tourism uses as plain Spanish, a boxed meal the tour carries for the day. If a full-day flyer doesn't mention it, ask what lunch is planned.
  • el volante: the flyer The printed sheet agencies hand out on the plaza and at the office. Quoting it back ('el volante dice...') is a polite, effective way to pin an offer down.
