Essential vocabulary
- Me apunto.: Count me in. The quick, confident way to confirm a plan the group already made.
- ¿Quién maneja?: Who's driving? The first logistics question for any plan outside town.
- Yo llevo el postre.: I'll bring the dessert. Claiming a dish is commitment currency, it marks you as someone the group can count on.
- ¿Cuánto ponemos cada uno?: How much does each of us put in? The la vaca question, the answer is always Vero's call, never a number the app suggests.
- Te paso por QR.: I'll send it to you by QR. The default way friends settle small payments like la vaca in Bolivian cities.
- El miércoles no puedo, pero el sábado sí.: I can't Wednesday, but Saturday works. The warm cancellation-plus-counter-proposal pattern that protects your credibility with the group.
- Entonces quedamos así:: So here's what we've settled: The phrase that closes a plan for good, once it's said, the plan holds.
Bolivian Spanish terms
- la vaca: the collective pot The standard mechanics of any group plan here, contributing promptly is the entire etiquette, and the exact amount is always the organizer's call.
- la quinta: the country house A rented or borrowed countryside property just outside the city, the classic setting for a Sunday group plan.
Useful phrases
- Me apunto, ¿a qué hora salimos?: Count me in, what time do we leave? Confirming a plan and asking the next practical question in one message.
- Yo llevo el postre, avisame si falta algo más.: I'll bring the dessert, let me know if anything else is needed. Claiming a dish while staying open to helping more.
- Ya te pasé lo de la vaca.: I already sent you my share for the pot. Confirming payment made, promptness is the whole etiquette of la vaca.
- El miércoles no puedo, es que tengo algo, pero el sábado sí, de una.: I can't Wednesday, I've got something on, but Saturday, for sure. Declining one plan while confirming another, warmly and without over-explaining.
- Bueno, entonces quedamos así: sábado, once y media, en la quinta.: Okay, so here's what we've settled: Saturday, half past eleven, at the quinta. Closing a plan for the whole group with a short, clear summary.
