- ¿De qué equipo sos?: What team do you support? The question you will be asked the moment a match starts, every answer, including your home country's club, is a valid one.
- ¡Golazo!: What a goal! The real-time reaction you shout the instant a great goal goes in.
- ¡Uy, casi!: Ooh, so close! The near-miss reaction, almost as loud as a goal, and just as expected.
- Ganamos / perdimos / empatamos.: We won / we lost / we tied. The fan 'we', you say 'ganamos' even if you were only watching from the sofa.
- ¿Cómo vamos?: What's the score? The quick way to ask the score without stopping the room's energy.
- Yo le voy a [equipo].: I support [team]. How you name your team, or your home country's club, when the question comes.
Bolivian Spanish terms
- el clásico cruceño: the Santa Cruz derby (Blooming vs. Oriente Petrolero) This match splits Santa Cruz households in two, everyone has a side, and everyone will ask yours.
- la Verde: the national team (Bolivia) Club rivalry splits Santa Cruz, but everyone unites behind la Verde when Bolivia plays.
Useful phrases
- Yo le voy a [equipo de mi país], la verdad.: Honestly, I support [my country's team]. The diplomatic answer to the club question, naming your own country's team instead of picking a local side.
- Dejame ver el partido y decido.: Let me watch the match first and I'll decide. A second diplomatic out when someone tries to recruit you on the spot.
- ¡Golazo! ¿Viste eso?: What a goal! Did you see that? The real-time reaction to share the moment with whoever's next to you.
- ¿Cómo vamos?: What's the score? Asking the score quickly when you walk back into the room.
