How it is used in Bolivia

The numbered ticket that many public centres, offices and banks hand out at the door, often at busy times (some counters say ficha, others turno). Many people take one on arrival, often early in the morning, and in public centres you often pick up a ficha for the day. Keep it visible and wait until your number is called; ask whether you need one instead of cutting the line, and whether you need a new one if you come back.

In many banks and agencies the guard hands you one at the door, in central Cochabamba too: say you came to open an account, and ask which button is for opening an account or for plataforma.

La ficha is also the small numbered tag you get when something of yours stays behind a counter, sister of the terminal's 'comprobante': Bolivia's services run on these little proofs.
