How it is used in Bolivia

In Bolivia 'flota' means the big intercity bus or coach, not a fleet. Flotas connect Santa Cruz with Cochabamba, La Paz and beyond, and distances get quoted in flota time ('como cuatro horas en flota' for San Javier), always relayed, never guaranteed.

Overnight flotas, such as the semi cama between big cities, are a travel classic and how Bolivia crosses its long distances on a budget: for a 12-hour haul like Santa Cruz–Sucre the flota IS the option. Night flotas arrive at dawn, leaving the whole day free, and evening flotas are why locals build a terminal buffer into the day's plan.

For a three-hour hop like Samaipata it is not the usual choice: the trufi wins. Choosing it over a car ride is no downgrade, though: for a couple's day trip it reads as its own small romantic ritual, not a lack of options.
