How it is used in Bolivia

In Bolivia (and across the Andes) recién usually means 'only just / not until now', not simply 'recently' as in Spain: 'recién empezamos' means 'we've only just started'. It also marks what happened this very moment: 'recién tengo señal' is the perfect first message when reception returns.

It also means 'not until', a real constraint stated plainly, not an apology or a hedge: 'A las 10:30 recién' means not before 10:30, 'recién el jueves' not until Thursday, 'recién la otra semana' not before next week, and «Recién puedo a las cinco» that five is the earliest he can make it. A small word that changes your whole timeline if you miss it.
